Jimmy Fallon And Billy Joel Make Musical Magic

Just when you think the new "Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon" can't get any better, Billy Joel comes on as a musical guest. Take it a step further, and you've got Fallon and Joel performing a duet together, making for the best 4 minutes of TV that I've seen in I don't even know how long.

Last night on "Tonight Show," Fallon got Joel in his chair and then confessed to the legendary singer and songwriter, "You're one of my all time favorites, and even just to talk to you, I get a little nervous." Fallon then added, "But to sing with you is the craziest." And then, using an iPad app that loops vocals together, the two created pure magic on stage with their mostly a cappella performance of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

Of course, Fallon manages to hold his own next to the living legend (Really though, what can't he do??) and Joel performs flawlessly as we would all expect. The YouTube video has since gone viral and if you still haven't seen it, I suggest you watch it immediately. You seriously have not lived until you've seen this duet (I'm not exaggerating). It is more than words can even begin to describe. This kind of talent is rare, watch it twice.

Best Original Songs At The Oscars

The 86th Academy Awards are tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC, which means it's about time to discuss the nominees for Best Original Song.

"Happy" (Despicable Me 2)

"Happy" is simple, fun and unbelievably catchy. It seems to be stuck in everyone's head right now, including mine. The song is cheerful, perfectly sung and goes along flawlessly with Despicable Me 2. However, I hate this song. I don't know what it is about it, but every time I hear it play, I can't help but immediately cover my ears and scan the room for the closest exit. I have no real criticism for this song, except that it is annoying and I just can't stand it.

"The Moon Song" (Her)

I don't have much to say about "The Moon Song". I haven't seen the movie so I don't understand the context, but I do like it. It's pretty, sweet and simple. I have nothing bad to say except that I hear nothing incredibly special about it.

"Let It Go" (Frozen)

By now you've probably seen Frozen. But, if you're one of the few, you've certainly heard enough about everything that makes this Disney movie great. If you ask me, what makes this movie the hit that it is is the music, and "Let It Go" is obviously the highlight. The song is beautifully written and has a powerful message that anyone who is ever feeling held back by someone or something should apply to his or her life.

U2 can do no wrong. There isn't much else to say here.

My pick for the winner? Frozen's "Let It Go". The song is strong, empowering and one that you just can't help but sing along to. And those are reasons enough without even mentioning the insane vocals that Tony Award winning Idina Menzel provides for the ballad. Everything about this song is perfect. But honestly, just as long as "Happy" doesn't win the Oscar, happy is what I will be.

50 Years Later: The Day Music Changed Forever

The day was Feb. 9, 1964 and the audience was 73 million Americans, all huddled around their televisions to watch the now legendary performance by The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. With every song sung - "All My Loving," "She Loves You," "I Saw Her Standing There," "I Want to Hold Your Hand" - America fell more and more in love.

Tonight at 8 p.m. ET, CBS will air a Grammy Salute to the Beatles, commemorating their unforgettable appearance on that unforgettable show. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will be joined by many stars of today, including acts ranging from Imagine Dragons to Katy Perry. Tune in to see a show that will hopefully capture just how much this performance by arguably the world's most famous band changed America.

My Secret Mentor

John Mayer is a living legend. The singer-songwriter, guitarist and all-around perfect person has been making music for people of all ages to enjoy since 1998. He is a seven time Grammy award winner whose lyrics are undeniably some of the best writing the world of music has ever seen.

Just one of my many favorite lyrics by John Mayer comes from his song "Clarity", which was written for his album "Heavier Things" released in 2003. "By the time I recognize this moment, this moment will be gone. But I will bend the light, pretend that it somehow lingered on."

Whenever I need some inspiration in my life, I turn to his songs. John Mayer writes music that is bound to live on for generations to come. I think that music that can be appreciated by people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds is music worth appreciating, and that is just the type of music that John Mayer has and continues to create.
